Why you can’t—and shouldn’t try to—please everyone #MyLifeMyDreams

Here’s the deal with trying to please people… it sucks for YOU! You will never realize your full potential if you’re too busy creating what other people have visualized for you.

Your style, your vision, your beliefs, your desires, your dreams, and your interests are there for a reason! They make you who you are and give you a pathway to live your purpose.

You know what I’ve always admired the most about artists? They can be just who they are and we praise them for being geniuses. We give them permission to be out of the ordinary, because we praise them, and envy them, for being different. And then, here we are in the “normal” world wearing what we see on TV (who wore it best?); buying products to fit in (iDid), pushing the budget to wear designer labels (guilty); singing songs about giant asses; taking social media quizzes to boast about which celebrity we are the most like; and spending days watching Netflix because it would be a major social faux pas to not be able to participate in a conversation about “Orange is the New Black”.

The irony is that we just want to be accepted for who we are yet we live our life to fit in. There are times when we succumb to peer pressure and go against our nature. I don’t know about you, but whenever I have gone with along with the crowd just because, it has never worked out quite the way I planned it. Living a happy life is not about living the life that your parents, friends, or spouses want you to live. It’s about being true to your soul.

We want to work in jobs that make us happy, but instead we opt for ones that give us status or a sense of security. We have favorite outfits that stay in the closet because they aren’t feminine or masculine enough. We don’t have celiac disease, but we avoid gluten because someone convinced us that we’re all allergic to it. We opt for plastic surgery that will make us fit in with society’s current definition of beauty. We miss conversations taking place right in front of us so that we don’t miss the conversations taking place on our phones. We share viral Internet memes because even though it hurts the person in the photo, it’s funny to everyone else.

I don’t know about you, but I love when people say I’m “crazy,” “different,” or a “nerd.” Sure, I enjoy pop culture as much as the next person, but I also love to do my own thing. I especially love when people point out my age like it matters. Is it any of your business if I want a new tattoo or to dye my hair purple at 33-years-old? Do I care what you think about my biological clock? Mmmm… Not so much. One of my all-time favorite sayings is, “You’re not the boss of me!”

Close your eyes and reconnect with yourself. In your soul lies everything about you that is already perfect. Even in your faults, there are lessons to learn that will lead you to making the most of this lifetime. Failure guides us. Take from it what you will. I can guarantee one thing; if you try to learn from other people’s point of views, instead of your own, you’ll never really learn the lesson and you’ll keep repeating the same mistakes.

Do us all a favor and just do you. The world doesn’t need more carbon copies. The world needs thinkers, dreamers and doers. #MyLifeMyDreams
