3 Mindset Changes that Will Boost Your Income

There’s just no other way to say this: Your beliefs create your reality. If you’re working crazy hours and still struggling financially, it’s time to pay attention to your mindset. If you know my story, you know that I experienced this firsthand.

Mindset Change #1 – My gifts are worthy of financial compensation.

Do you have a habit of setting your rates low or constantly negotiating just to get business? It’s time to look at your self-worth. If you set your rates low because you don’t believe in yourself, you’ll attract people who don’t believe in your gifts either. When your clients don’t trust you, you’ve got a big problem on your hands.

How can you change this? It starts by believing yourself. Focus on all of the people your gift has served in the past, even if was with family and friends. Make a list of these people and how you’ve helped them. If you’re having trouble with this, send out an email blast or post the following on social media: “I’m working on a new project. Have I ever helped you with (problem you solve goes here)? If so, how did I make a difference?” I understand this may make you uncomfortable, but that’s part of growth. Push past your modesty and self-doubt. Read over your “superstar support” list everyday because it’ll do wonders for helping you build your self-esteem and your confidence is asking for what you’re worth.

Here’s another way to look at it: When you project an aura of confidence, you’ll attract people on a completely different level. Think of a the sales person who knows that their product is so good that they don’t have to try to convince you to buy anything. Now think of a sales person you encountered who was desperate to make a sale. How does each of these scenarios make you feel? Can you see why confidence in your product or service is crucial?

Mindset Change #2 – My rates attract my ideal clients.

You attract what you settle for. If you set your rates low because you’re afraid that you won’t get business, you’ll attract people who are always looking for a bargain and the ones who want to haggle with you. These are also the people who usually don’t pay on time. Do you really want to deal with that just to bring in a few extra dollars? Not worth it.

This is not be confused with being greedy or under delivering on your services. Be prepared, and be confident, in your ability to truly make a difference in someone’s life. Be willing to go the extra mile. You can do that with confidence when you set your rates appropriately because you’ll be financially comfortable. You’ll feel like a million bucks when you go above and beyond instead of feeling like your clients are squeezing every last drop out of you.

One way to set your rates at an appropriate level is what I call the Goldilocks method. Write down several dollar amounts from low to high on a piece of paper. Now read them out loud as if you’re giving your rates to a potential client. Which one feels like it’s too good of a deal and like you’re selling yourself short? Which one feels so high that you wouldn’t feel comfortable asking for it? Which one makes you feel like you’d be excited to work with a client at that rate?

Remember, everything is energy. People pick up on your energy when you speak. Think back to the sales person scenario. Be confident in your gifts and your rates and you’ll attract people who will be excited to purchase from you.

Mindset Change #3 – I mind my own money business.

Competition is healthy, but not when it drives you to lose sight of the purpose of your work. There are two ways this becomes unhealthy. One is that you’re so concerned about what other people have, that you don’t appreciate your own journey. The second is that you follow what everyone else is doing.

Mind your own money business! Be appreciative of where you are and grateful for what you have. Don’t hold yourself the to same standard as everyone else around you. You are on completely different journeys. Just because you’re at different levels, doesn’t mean one is failing and one is winning. When you’re focused on material things as the only indicator of success, you are completely missing out. The universe will naturally provide you with abundance when you are sharing your gift and supporting people. You’ll also be more aware of lessons and you’ll probably enjoy a better personal life too. In other words, focus on people, not things, and you’ll be richer than you could ever imagine.

Be authentic and unique. People are naturally attracted to people who are different and stand out. The most successful people in the world are what we label as innovators and one of a kind. They think outside of the box.

We each come to this world with specific gifts and personalities. Embrace them. Somewhere along the line we learn that you have to conform. Be the rebel. Start a movement that people will gravitate towards because you stand for something that fills a void.

Your purpose is unique to you. The universe will support you in it. So forget what everyone else is doing, forget the trends, and forget about what other people charge for their services. Build something unique. Be so impactful that people want to follow you. That’s where the gold is.
