5 Free Ways to Sneak in Me Time During Your Day

Have you ever felt like you’re spinning through your whirlwind of a day a la the Tasmanian Devil? If you’re like me, this can easily equate to an exhausted mind, sleepless nights, and racing thoughts. When you’re exceptionally hectic it’s crucial that you practice self-balance checks throughout the day aka “me time.” Not only will it help you get through your day a little easier, but it’ll also help you clear your mind of the clutter.

A self-balance check is as simple as taking a few minutes to clear your mind. It’s like pressing pause on your day, or for those of you familiar with hurricanes, the eye in the middle of the storm. This is my secret to staying focused and energized… I take time for me! True that I don’t usually have hours of “me time,” but that’s why I make it a priority to sneak it in during a crammed day. Best of all, it doesn’t cost me a penny!

Here are 5 free ways you can sneak in some “me time” during the day:

1.    Close your eyes and breathe. Find a quiet place where you can sit, stand or lay down, preferably somewhere where you can also dim or turn off the lights. Close your eyes. Focus on each breath. To help you do so, you may want to choose a mantra or series of mantras to repeat. Make them the same each day so that you continue to manifest that energy into the universe. You’ll clear your mind and draw energy towards what you want. It’s a win-win!

2.    Take a walk. Personally, this is one of my favorite ways to unwind during the day and regain my focus. I love to feel the sunshine on my face and get my heart rate up. If it’s hard for you to sit still, this is an awesome option. Take in the sights and sounds of the neighborhood and let your to-do list temporarily float away.

3.    Stretch. Not only is stretching amazing for your body, especially if you sit all day, but it also helps you clear your mind by physically requiring you to focus on the movement. You can take a few minutes to do your favorite yoga move or just touch your toes and slowly stretch up to reach for the ceiling. Just relax and don’t rush it.

4.    Phone a friend. There’s nothing like connecting with someone to help you feel like you’re breathing in some fresh air. Plus, laughing has a multitude of health benefits. (Yes, I realize that phone service isn’t free, but the way I see it, I use my phone mainly for work so personal use is a perk.)

5.    Let your creativity flow. Whether you love to write, draw, play an instrument, sing or build stuff, releasing your creativity is also an amazing way to release stress. For example, if music is your thing, perform a song several times throughout the day. Focus on the melody and the vibrations of the sounds. You’ll be revitalized in no time
